HOW TO SELECT A PUP ?
Newly those who want to rear a pup,should select according to one`s desire and need. Pups of 6-8wks old, after eruption of all the 28 milk teeth should be weaned from mother.
MALE or FEMALE DOG?
Males are less faithful relatively, they may rebel against owner at times. They like to wander around.Go after female dogs which are in heat. But males are excellent watch dogs.
Females are faithful,they mix up very well both with children and elders. They do not like to wander out side. Easy to train, cool temperament. But during heat period causes some trouble to owner.
SINGLE or COUPLE OF DOGS?
If one want to rear couple of dogs , male and female or both females are advisable to rear. If both males are selected, they may fight for dominance. If male and female are selected one of them should be sterilized to avoid breeding problems.
PUP or ADULT DOG:
If Pup is selected, it will easily get socialise and its easy to train . Adult dog is selected if he/she was not trained well earlier, its difficult to control them. If he/she socialises well there wont be any problem. Dogs with long hair require more attention or efforts to maintain than the dog with short hair.
TEETH IN DOG:
Milk teeth erruption age : 3 - 5wks, 28 in number.
Permanent teeth erruption age: 16 - 30wks, 42 in number.
A FEW POINTS TO BE NOTED BEFORE SELECTION OF PUP :
1)Pups with hereditary problems should be avoided.
2)Pup should be healthy.
3)Skin should be examined -it should be free from dendraff, skin diseases, ecto parasites.
4)Skin should be smooth with shiny hair coat.
5)Nose,eyes and ears should be free of any secretions
6)Nose should be moist , eye should be alert.
7)Tongue, gums, teeth, jaws, throat should be proper.
8)Ribs should be free of abnormalities.
9)Palpate under belly, should be free from boils and tumors.
10)Legs should be straight.Gait should be proper.
Select carefully keeping in view of these points. healthy pup will bring joy to your home.
